Employees can now view, add, and update payment methods on file for customers — directly from the Employee App. This makes it easy to keep payment information up to date without switching to another device or asking a manager to step in.
Note: This feature requires a feature flag to be enabled. Contact your Cents Customer Success Manager if you don't see this option.
What employees can do
With this feature enabled, employees can:
View a customer's saved payment methods
Change which card is set as the default
Add a new card and optionally set it as the default
Note: Employees cannot delete payment methods. Only customers can remove cards from their account.
How to manage payment methods from Customer Details
In the Employee App, navigate to a customer's profile.
Tap Payment Methods to see the cards on file.
From here, you can:
Set a new default — tap the card you want to make default, then confirm.
Add a new card — tap Add Payment Method, enter the card details manually, and choose whether to set it as the default.
The customer will be prompted to provide consent before any changes are saved.
How to manage payment methods during the payment flow
If a customer wants to use a different card at checkout:
During the payment step, tap Change Payment Method.
You'll see the customer's saved cards. Select a different card to use for this transaction, or tap Add Payment Method to enter a new one.
Confirm the selection to proceed with payment.
Important limitations
Sessioning is a prerequisite requirement for enabling this feature as all employee actions must be tracked in order to track consent for adding a payment method on file.
Cards cannot be saved via the card reader. Entering a new card must be done manually (typed in). Tap-to-pay or swipe-to-save is not currently supported.
Employees cannot delete cards. If a customer wants to remove a payment method, they'll need to do so from their own account.
FAQs
Is customer consent required to add or change a payment method? Yes. Before any changes are saved, the customer must provide consent. The system logs the team member's ID and a timestamp for every change.
Can I add a card using the card reader during checkout? Not currently. New cards must be entered manually. Tap-to-pay or swipe-to-save during checkout is not yet supported.
What if a customer has no payment methods on file? You'll see an empty payment methods list. You can add a new card from either the Customer Details screen or during the payment flow.
Can employees see full card numbers? No. Only the last four digits and card type are displayed.
Can I set a new card as the default at the same time I add it? Yes. When adding a new card, you'll have the option to mark it as the default in the same step.
