SUNMI T3 Decorative Trim Replacement Guide

Learn how to replace the front horizontal trim and the main screen back shell trim on the SUNMI T3 POS using the replacement kit shipped from Cents.

Written by Euri

The decorative trim pieces on the SUNMI T3 are the slim, adhesive-backed accent strips on the front of the column (above the base) and on the back shell of the main screen. They are cosmetic only and do not affect how the terminal powers on, prints, or connects to peripherals. If a piece gets scratched, peels at the edge, or is damaged during install or cleaning, you can swap it out in a few minutes using the replacement kit shipped from Cents.

This guide covers both trim locations:

  1. The front horizontal trim (front of the POS)

  2. The back shell of the main screen

When to use this guide

Replace the decorative trim when:

  • The trim is visibly peeling, lifting, or has come off entirely

  • The trim is scratched, chipped, or otherwise cosmetically damaged

  • You received a replacement trim kit from Cents and want to install it

  • A part of the trim is missing after a move or deep clean

The terminal does not need to be powered off to swap the trim, but it is fine to power it down if you prefer. The replacement is purely cosmetic.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • The SUNMI T3 terminal in front of you on a flat surface

  • The replacement trim kit (small black Sunmi-branded box) with the new piece you need

  • A clean cloth and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (70 percent or higher) for cleaning leftover adhesive

Reach out to Cents Support if you need a tool sent with your kit.

If your terminal is under one year old and the original trim failed on its own (lifted, fell off, or arrived damaged), contact Cents Support before installing the replacement. Hardware under one year is covered for a free replacement, and we can confirm the kit was sent through the correct return path. See the SUNMI T3 80mm Guide for general T3 information.

How to replace the front horizontal trim

The front horizontal trim is the curved accent strip that wraps the front of the post, just above the base of the terminal.

  1. Open the replacement kit box and take out the new trim piece and a pry tool.

  2. Slide a pry tool into the edge of the old trim along one side, where the seam meets the column.

  3. Work the tool along the length of the trim to release the adhesive and lift the old piece off the column.

  4. Clean any leftover adhesive off the column with a cloth and isopropyl alcohol. The surface needs to be smooth and dry before you install the new piece, or the new trim will not sit flush.

  5. Peel the protective film off the back of the new trim to expose the adhesive.

  6. Line up the new trim with the snap holes on the column and press it into place.

  7. Run your fingers along the full length of the trim to seat the adhesive evenly against the column.

Look at the trim from a few angles to confirm there are no gaps or lifted edges. If you see a gap, press the area firmly for another 10 to 15 seconds.

How to replace the main screen back shell trim

The back shell trim is the dark accent strip behind the main screen with the SUNMI T3 logo on it.

  1. Find the small gap on the left side of the trim where it meets the back shell.

  2. Slide a pry tool into the gap and gently lift the old trim out. The piece is held in place with snap clips and adhesive, so it may take a small amount of force.

  3. Peel the protective film off the back of the new trim to expose the adhesive.

  4. Line the new trim up with the snap holes on the back shell and press it into place starting from one side.

  5. Run your fingers across the full length of the trim to seat the adhesive and confirm the snap clips have engaged.

Confirm the trim sits flat with no bumps and no visible gaps at the edges. The install is complete once the piece looks flush with the surrounding shell.

Gotchas and troubleshooting

The old trim will not come off

Use a pry tool to work along the full length of the seam rather than pulling from one corner. Pulling from a single point can crack the plastic. If the trim is still stuck after working both sides, warm the area briefly with a hair dryer on low to soften the adhesive, then try again.

There is leftover glue on the column or back shell

Use a cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Do not use acetone, nail polish remover, or other strong solvents. They can damage the plastic finish.

The new trim does not sit flush

Press firmly for 15 to 20 seconds. If it still lifts, the surface likely was not clean enough before install. Remove the trim, clean the area again with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry fully, and reapply.

The snap clips are not engaging on the back shell trim

The trim is reversed. Flip it so the SUNMI T3 logo reads correctly, then realign with the snap holes.

The replacement kit is missing a piece or the wrong color

Do not install. Contact Cents Support and include a photo of the kit contents and your store name so we can ship the correct replacement.

FAQ

Do I need to power off the terminal to replace the trim?

No. The trim is cosmetic and the terminal can stay on. Power down only if you prefer to work with the screen off.

How long does the replacement take?

About 5 minutes per piece once you have the kit and tool in front of you.

Where do I order a replacement trim kit?

Contact Cents Support with your store name and the trim piece you need (front horizontal trim or back shell). We will arrange the kit.

Is the trim replacement covered under warranty?

If your terminal is under one year old and the trim failed without operator damage, the replacement is free. Reach out to Cents Support before installing so we can log it.

Can I reuse the old trim if it came off cleanly?

No. The adhesive is single-use. Once the trim has been removed, the bond will not hold reliably on a second install. Use the new piece from the replacement kit.

The trim has a small scratch but is otherwise fine. Should I replace it?

That is up to you. The trim is cosmetic and a small scratch will not affect terminal function. Most operators replace it only when the damage is visible from the customer side.
