How to Register Your Stripe Card Reader to Your Store via the Cents Employee App

Assemble your Stripe card reader, connect it to Wi-Fi, and register it to your store from the Connections tab in the Cents Employee App.

Written by Euri

Your Stripe card reader connects to your store through the Cents Employee App. This guide walks through assembling the reader, getting it online, and registering it to your point of sale so you can take card payments.

Video walkthrough

This video walks through the full setup.

What you'll need

The reader comes with four parts, all packed in the same box:

  • The card reader

  • The dongle

  • The cable that connects to the dongle

  • The power source. This is a hardwired device, so you'll need an open outlet nearby.

Assemble and power the reader

  1. Plug the orange end of the cable directly into the dongle.

  2. Plug the power source into the dongle as well. It connects at the port marked with a lightning bolt symbol.

  3. Open the back of the card reader by pushing down and then up on the cover.

  4. Plug the other end of the cable into the port inside. These pins are delicate and can bend, so don't force it. You'll feel it click in gently.

  5. Put the cover back on.

  6. Plug the power source into your outlet to power on the reader.

Connect the reader to Wi-Fi

  1. When the reader powers on, it loads to a setup screen. Choose your language.

  2. When prompted, select your password-protected Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

  3. A checkmark appears once the reader is connected. Tap Continue.

  4. Shortly after connecting, the reader displays a three-word code. You'll use this to register it in the next step.

Important: Your POS (the Cents Employee App) and the card reader must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Register the reader to your store

With the three-word code showing on the reader, register it from your point of sale:

  1. On your POS, open the Connections tab.

  2. In the Card Reader section, tap Register Reader.

  3. Enter the three-word code shown on the reader, then tap Register.

  4. The reader updates and then shows the Cents splash screen.

  5. Back in the Connections tab of your POS, confirm the connection.

Troubleshooting

  • Reader won't connect or register? Make sure your POS and the reader are on the same Wi-Fi network, then try again.

  • The cable won't seat in the reader? The pins are delicate. Line it up gently and let it click in, without forcing it.

  • No three-word code appears? Confirm the reader finished connecting to Wi-Fi (you should see a checkmark), then wait a moment for the code to load.
