Shifts power a lot of what happens at your location. They define your store hours, the windows your employees can clock in and out for, the tasks tied to each part of the day, and the data you'll see in your Shift Breakdown and Team Timecard reports.
This article walks you through adding shifts to a location, editing them later, and what you can do once they're in place.
Before you start
You'll need:
Admin access to your Cents Business Manager at admin.trycents.com.
At least one location already created. If you haven't set up your location yet, follow How to Set Up a Store / Location first. Shifts are part of that initial setup flow.
Adding or editing shifts on a location
1. From the Admin dashboard, go to Locations.
2. Click into the location you want to update.
3. Find the Store Hours and Shifts section and hit Edit to make changes.
Heads up — where this section lives depends on your setup. For most businesses, Store Hours and Shifts sits on the location's Details tab. But if your business has the Turnaround Time by Service at Location feature flag turned on, you'll find it under a dedicated Schedule tab instead (alongside Processing Schedule and Turnaround Time settings). Same section, just a different home — if you don't see it under Details, check for a Schedule tab.
4. Click Add Shift to create a new one, or click any existing shift to edit it.
5. Adjust the start time, end time, and the days the shift covers.
6. Hit Save.
Changes kick in right away for future clock-ins and task assignments.
What you can do once your shifts are set
Assign tasks to specific shifts. Tie opening checklists, mid-day cleaning, or end-of-day cash counts to the shift they belong to. See How to Assign a Task to a Date & Shift.
Track employee time. Employees clock in and out from the in-store tablet at the start and end of their shift. Their hours feed directly into your Team Timecard report.
Pull shift-level reporting. Use the Shift Breakdown report to print or review what happened during a single shift, and the Team Timecard report for payroll-ready hours by employee.
Tips
One quick baseline, then customize. Apply to all sets the same hours across every day, then override the days that are different (weekends, holidays, late nights).
Multiple shifts per day are supported. If you have a morning team and an evening team, create separate shifts so each employee's clock-in maps to the right window for tasks and reporting.
Shifts are per location. If you operate multiple stores, set shifts for each location individually so the hours and tasks reflect that store's schedule.
