The following document explains the process to install Penny devices. There are four main aspects that need to be covered in the install process. Consult machine-specific installation guides for further information including harness routing, machine programming, etc.

ALWAYS POWER DOWN MACHINES THROUGHOUT DEVICE INSTALLATION.

Necessary Materials

Cents offers an optional Install Kit (75-01683) which is highly recommended. The materials described below are the bare necessities of installing a single device.

Tools Needed

3/4" Carbide Hole Saw

#27 Drill Bit, TiN Coated

Drilling Oil

Center Drill/Countersink

T10 Security Tool

Depending on machine manufacturer and type, various other tools will be needed to prepare machines for device installation including but not limited to: door removal, front panel removal, interior panel removal, and interior drilling for cable routing.

Items Provided by Cents

#6-32 x 5/8" Screw

Drill Guide

Dryer Tape

Drilling & Mounting

Preparation

NOTE: always double check the components received to ensure that they are as expected. When installing devices in a store with multiple machine manufacturers, take care to note that each manufacturer will use a specifically configured device that is not interchangeable.

  1. Prepare boxes of devices, unwrapping/unpacking as needed. It is often helpful to lay out devices according to store plan and expected number of devices used.

  2. Prepare wiring harnesses, unwrapping/unpacking as needed.

  3. Lay out tools and hardware, ensuring that necessary tools as laid out in the lists below are available.

  4. It is often helpful to test fit harnesses on each unique machine manufacturer/generation prior to beginning the overall installation process to ensure that all necessary components are present and applicable to the machines at hand.

Drilling

NOTE: optimal device mounting location varies by machine and store. Always ensure that the provided harness length will be sufficient in the selected location.

  1. Affix the drill guide sticker to the location on the machine where the Penny will be mounted. Consult machine-specific guide and store owner before drilling.

  2. Drill the holes as noted on the drill guide. Use a spring punch, countersink, or a similar center-drill to ensure accurate hole placement. Always ensure adequate drilling oil is used. The drill sizes are:

    1. #27 drill 4x

    2. 3/4" hole saw 1x

Wiring

Each machine type provides power and machine control connections that are accessible to the device differently. Consult the machine-specific guide to identify these aspects on each machine.

Always work with the machine powered down. Always take care to plug harness connectors in correctly. If connector orientation is in question, contact Cents or a qualified machine technician.

Mounting

Note that each type of machine manufacturer (Alliance, Dexter, etc.) will receive a uniquely configured Penny device. Each device is labeled with its associated configuration. Take care to use the correct device on each machine.

  1. After the Penny has been wired, mount the device using the provided #6 hardware.

    1. If the machine is a dryer, ensure that dryer tape is used at the rear of the device as well as in any interior machine penetrations that expose the lint-carrying area of the machine.

  2. After the device has been fully mounted, check for front-view level and for a flush surface between the machine and the device.

It is absolutely critical to use dryer tape on dryer installations. Failing to do so will result in device failure and will void the device warranty.

Device Provisioning

After installation, devices can be provisioned. As a preliminary step, ensure that the store's WiFi network is set up according to the instructions below:

  1. Note that it may be the case that the device will automatically enter its self-test mode. If so, then the EXIT button in the top right of the screen can be pressed to advance the device to show the QR code for provisioning. You can ignore any PASS or FAIL text on the screen. The device will look as shown below:

  2. The QR code for provisioning will look as shown below:

  3. Scan this QR code to be directed to a Cents landing page. The URL will include the unique MAC address for this specific Penny which is used for uniquely identifying each device.

  4. Enter the username and password that were provided. Upon entering the credentials, the QR code link will take you to a configuration page for the specific device that was scanned.

  5. Consult the machine specific guide to correctly provision the device.

  6. After pressing SUBMIT, a confirmation of the data entered will appear.

  7. Within 30 seconds of pressing submit, the device will begin a series of restarts and ultimately will power on to a stable state. After the configuration of device is complete the device will go into an idle state assuming that the harness is properly connected and the machine is in serial mode.

If you need to identify the MAC address of an already provisioned device, hold down on the machine number in the top left of the screen of the device (e.g. "45" in the case below) for 5 seconds:

ALWAYS TEST MACHINES WITH COIN AND CARD AFTER INSTALLATION
