Penny Provisioning Instructions

T
Written by Taylor Panagakis

Upon powerup Penny Devices will display a QR code with a white background.

When this QR code is scanned it will take you to a Cents landing page. The URL will include the unique MAC address for this specific Penny. We uniquely identify each Penny with this MAC address (note, it is different than the 12 digit code on the back, which is also a unique code for the device that does not get used online).

Enter the username and password that were provided. Upon entering the credentials, the QR code link will take you to a configuration page for the specific device that was scanned.

Below is a table explaining each of the fields. Refer to the primary install video for a live walkthrough (the fields may be different in that video). It is imperative that mistakes are not make during this process.

This is the fleet or location that the devices will be assigned to. We pre-set these options to limit the dropdown to just stores that are expected to be provisioning, so it will either default to your store, or your store is a choice out of a few store names

After all of the settings are entered and double-checked, press submit. Below is a sample of the data entry.

Once Save Changes is pressed, the screen will display a confirmation of the entered data. Review to ensure the data was entered correctly, and if there is an error, take note of it or capture a screenshot of the issue to share with the Cents team for correction later.

Within 30 seconds of pressing save changes, the device will begin a series of restarts and ultimately will power on to a stable state. After the device is configured, it will enter an idle state, assuming the harness is properly connected and the machine is in serial mode. It is recommended to first set the machine to serial mode, then proceed with the provisioning process immediately. If the device is configured without the machine in serial mode, the machine will continuously have its vend satisfied as the device attempts to establish serial communication with it, and the machine interprets them as pulse-mode vend requests.
