Either through vandalism or liquid ingress, EMV modules can become damaged. Follow the guide below to replace the EMV module.

Required Materials

T10 bit/driver

T8 bit/driver

New EMV module (provided by Cents - email [email protected] to request)

Replacement Process

  1. Remove the device from the machine using the T10 bit

  2. Using the T8 bit, remove the rear cover

  3. After removing the back cover, identify the EMV module

  4. Remove the flexible connector by pulling up on the white/yellow tab, then remove the orange flexible connector

    1. At this point, the EMV module can be removed. It is in place via friction and a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool can be helpful to pull the EMV out from the device. See the photo above.

  5. When swapping the EMV module, be sure to reattach the NFC antenna and plate it in the same orientation as it was with the original EMV. Follow the steps above in reverse to reassemble the connector firmly in place, making sure the white tab is locked in the closed position. The flexible cable should not be able to pull out of the connector.

  6. The swap is complete. Reattach the back plate using the 4 screws with the T8 bit.

No further action will be necessary once this swap is performed - the device can be reinstalled in its original location and tested with card for functionality. If issues arise, please contact [email protected]
