Sales tax laws can differ significantly across locations, and you may occasionally need to set up tax exemptions for specific commercial customers. Here’s how you can easily create a tax-exempt tier in Cents:

Step 1: Duplicate the Applicable Services

  • Navigate to your existing services in Cents.

  • Duplicate the services that your commercial customer uses.

  • Important: Ensure the “Taxable” option is unchecked for these duplicated services.

Step 2: Create a Tax-Exempt Commercial Tier

  • Go to your Pricing Tiers or Categories.

  • Create a new tier called “Tax Exempt”.

  • Assign the duplicated services to this new tier.

Step 3: Assign Customer to the Tax-Exempt Tier

  • Locate the commercial customer’s profile.

  • Assign the customer to the newly created “Tax Exempt” commercial tier.

Step 4: Hide Taxable Services at POS (optional)

  • To avoid confusion, you may remove visibility of taxable services from the POS for this customer.

  • Simply unselect taxable services from the customer’s assigned location, so they won’t appear during checkout.

That’s it! Your commercial customer is now correctly set up as tax-exempt.
