Sales tax laws can differ significantly across locations, and you may occasionally need to set up tax exemptions for specific commercial customers. Here’s how you can easily create a tax-exempt tier in Cents:
Step 1: Duplicate the Applicable Services
Navigate to your existing services in Cents.
Duplicate the services that your commercial customer uses.
Important: Ensure the “Taxable” option is unchecked for these duplicated services.
Step 2: Create a Tax-Exempt Commercial Tier
Go to your Pricing Tiers or Categories.
Create a new tier called “Tax Exempt”.
Assign the duplicated services to this new tier.
Step 3: Assign Customer to the Tax-Exempt Tier
Locate the commercial customer’s profile.
Assign the customer to the newly created “Tax Exempt” commercial tier.
Step 4: Hide Taxable Services at POS (optional)
To avoid confusion, you may remove visibility of taxable services from the POS for this customer.
Simply unselect taxable services from the customer’s assigned location, so they won’t appear during checkout.
That’s it! Your commercial customer is now correctly set up as tax-exempt.
