Connecting an APG cash drawer to your Sunmi POS lets the Cents Employee App pop the drawer open automatically on cash payments, and on demand when you need it.
Use this if you want to set up a new cash drawer with your Sunmi POS, or fix a drawer that won't open.
Before you start
You have Admin access to Cents Business Manager.
You have an APG cash drawer and the APG Printer Interface Cable CD-101A. This cable has two different-sized ends.
How it works: The drawer opens through the printer. The port on the back of the Sunmi is wired to its built-in receipt printer. If you print receipts on a separate Sunmi Cloud Printer, connect the drawer to that printer instead.
Step 1: Turn on cash and the cash drawer in Business Manager
Click Admin, open Locations, and select your location.
Click the 3-dot menu in the top right and choose Configure Payment Options.
Turn on Accept cash payments and Cash Drawer tracking, then click Save. New locations have both turned on by default.
Step 2: Connect the cable
Turn the cash drawer over so you're looking at the bottom.
Plug the larger end of the cable into the single port on the bottom of the drawer.
Plug the smaller end into the cash drawer port on the back of the Sunmi.
Turn the drawer right side up, remove all packing material, and turn the key to the unlocked (vertical) position.
Step 3: Test the drawer
In the Employee App, make sure the drawer is started. On the Home screen, Cash Drawer should show Active.
Tap Cash Drawer, then the 3-dot menu > Open Cash Drawer. The drawer should pop open.
Set the cash drawer voltage (if needed)
On the Sunmi, go to Settings > Cashbox (on some models, Settings > System > Cash drawer).
Set the voltage to 24V and test again from the app. If that doesn't work, try 12V, then 9V. Most APG drawers use 24V.
Troubleshooting
Work through these in order. Most drawers that won't open are fixed by one of the first four.
Cash Drawer doesn't show Active on the Home screen?
Start the drawer first. Tap Cash Drawer, enter your starting cash, and start it. The drawer won't open from the app until it's started. This is the most common cause.
Nothing happens at all when you tap Open Cash Drawer?
Check that Accept cash payments and Cash Drawer tracking are both on for this location in Cents Business Manager (Admin > Locations > 3-dot menu > Configure Payment Options), and that you saved.
The cable won't fit into the port?
It's plugged in backward. The larger end goes into the bottom of the cash drawer and the smaller end goes into the back of the Sunmi. Never force it. Swap the ends and it will click in.
Using a regular Ethernet or phone cable?
It won't work, even if it fits. You need the APG Printer Interface Cable CD-101A (cash drawer to printer cable).
You hear a click but the drawer stays shut?
The drawer is getting the signal but something is holding it. Turn the key to the unlocked (vertical) position and remove any packing material from inside the drawer.
The drawer opens with the key but not from the app?
The drawer itself is fine, so the problem is the cable, the voltage, or a setting. Reseat both ends of the cable, then check the voltage below.
Still won't open after checking the cable?
Change the voltage on the Sunmi. Go to Settings > Cashbox (on some models, Settings > System > Cash drawer) and set it to 24V, then test from the app. If 24V doesn't work, try 12V, then 9V. Most APG drawers use 24V.
Using a Sunmi Cloud Printer?
The cash drawer opens through the printer. If your receipts print on a separate Sunmi Cloud Printer, plug the cash drawer into that printer instead of the back of the Sunmi.
Drawer is plugged into the Sunmi, but the app is set to use a cloud printer?
If Use Sunmi Cloud Printer as Default is turned on in the Employee App's connection settings, the app sends the open signal to the cloud printer instead of the Sunmi's built-in printer. Turn that setting off and test again.
Stopped working right after you tapped Clear cache in Connections?
This is a known issue. Fully close the Employee App and open it again, and the drawer will work.
Opens when you tap Open Cash Drawer, but not during a sale?
The drawer only opens automatically when you take a cash payment. It won't open for card or other payment methods.
It worked for weeks and then suddenly stopped?
Restart the Sunmi, reseat both ends of the cable, and recheck the voltage. If it still won't open, text our Support team before doing a factory reset. A reset clears your printer, scanner, and other device setups, so we'll help you plan for that first.
The drawer won't open even with the key, or arrived damaged?
The drawer may be jammed or broken. Text our Support team so we can help with a replacement.
