The UDM (Ubiquiti Dream Machine) is the small router dedicated to running your Cents Program. It handles the private network your Cents tablet, card reader, and other Cents devices connect to.
Setting it up takes about 5 minutes and only needs a power cable, an ethernet cable, and a spot with a live ethernet wall port or modem to plug into.
Before you start make sure:
The UDM is unboxed with its power cable (white or black) and the ethernet cable that shipped in the box
You have a live ethernet wall port or an open port on your modem or router to plug into
Your Cents tablet and card reader are nearby and powered on
You have your phone handy to text Cents Support for the network password
How to connect the UDM
Plug the white or black power cable into the bottom port of the UDM and the other end into a power outlet.
Plug the ethernet cable into the last ethernet port on the UDM. It is the one with a globe icon next to it.
Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into your ethernet wall port or directly into your modem or router.
Watch the top of the UDM. A blue light will blink while it starts up. When the light turns solid blue, the UDM is ready.
On your Cents tablet: open Settings, tap Connections, and under WiFi select the network TryCents. Text 888-302-8809 for the network password.
Gotchas and troubleshooting
The blue light never turns solid
Give it a full 3 to 5 minutes. If it is still blinking after that, unplug the power cable, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in. If it still will not go solid, confirm the ethernet cable in step 2 is fully seated in the globe-icon port on the UDM and in the wall port or modem.
I do not see the TryCents network on my Cents tablet
The UDM is likely still booting. Wait for the solid blue light and then re-scan for WiFi networks on the tablet. If TryCents still does not appear, restart your Cents tablet.
The Cents-Devices network is not showing on my card reader
The card reader network is on the same UDM but on a separate profile. If it is not visible, confirm the UDM light is solid blue, then power cycle the card reader (unplug and plug back in).
Which ethernet port is the globe icon one
It is the last port on the row, on the right side of the UDM. Every other port has a number; the globe port does not.
I am using my own router. Do I plug the UDM into it
Yes. Plug the UDM into any open ethernet port on your existing router or modem. The UDM handles the Cents network on top of your existing internet.
FAQ
What does UDM stand for?
UDM is the Ubiquiti Dream Machine, the router Cents uses to run a dedicated network for your Cents devices.
Do I need my own internet for this to work?
Yes. The UDM needs to be plugged into a live ethernet source (your modem, router, or a live wall port). It does not create internet on its own.
Can I connect my personal phone or laptop to the TryCents network?
The TryCents network is meant for Cents devices only. Adding personal devices can slow things down and is not supported by Cents Support. Use your regular store WiFi for personal devices.
Can I change the TryCents WiFi password on my own?
No. The password is managed by Cents so we can support all the connected devices consistently. Contact Cents Support if you need it reset.
The UDM was already installed when I got here. Do I need to redo anything?
No, if the light is solid blue and your Cents tablet and card reader are connected, you are set. Use this guide only if you are setting up a new UDM or swapping one out.
