Understanding Sessions in the Employee App

Start your app session after clocking in, for stores where sessioning is enabled.

Written by Euri

A session ties everything done on the Cents Employee App, like orders, payments, and cash drawer activity, to the employee who did it. When sessioning is on for your business, each employee starts their own session with their employee code before using the app.

Use this if you want to understand how sessions work, why the app asks for your code, and what to do when it won't let you in.

How sessions work

  • Clock in first. You must be clocked in for your shift before you can start a session.

  • Start your session. Enter your employee code on the Enter your pin screen and tap Start Session. The Home screen then shows your name.

  • End your session. Tap End session on the Home screen when you step away or finish, so no one else works under your name.

  • When sessioning is off, the app doesn't ask for a code to start, and activity isn't tied to a specific employee in the same way.

For the full step-by-step, see How to Start a Session in the Employee App.

Troubleshooting

  • The app won't let you into the Home screen?
You're most likely not clocked in. Tap Clock in / out, enter your employee code, then start your session again.

  • You clock in, but the app keeps sending you back to the clock-in screen?
Close the app fully and reopen it, then try again with the same employee code. If it keeps looping, text our Support team with the device type and your location.

  • Someone else's name is on the Home screen?
The last person didn't end their session. Tap End session, then start your own.

  • Your employee code isn't accepted?
Confirm the code with your manager. Employee codes are managed in Cents Business Manager.
