How to Record Cash In and Cash Out from the Cash Drawer

Use Cash Out / In in the Cents Employee App any time cash leaves or enters the drawer outside of a sale, like making change, paying for supplies, or moving cash to the safe. Recording it keeps your drawer count accurate at the end of the shift.

Before you start

  • The cash drawer is started and shows as Active on the Home screen.

  • You have your employee code.

  • You know the amount and the reason for the cash movement.

Open the cash drawer

  • Go to the cash drawer using either option: tap Cash Drawer on the Home screen (next to the Active status), or tap the menu icon (3 lines, top left) and select Cash Drawer.

  • On the Current Drawer screen, tap Cash Out / In.

  • Enter your employee code.

Record a Cash In

Use this when you add cash to the drawer, such as extra change.

  1. Select Cash In.

  2. Enter the Cash In Amount. The screen shows the cash in the drawer before and after.

  3. Add a Memo with the reason (for example, "Added $50 in quarters").

  4. Tap Cash in now.

Record a Cash Out

Use this when you take cash out of the drawer, such as paying for supplies or a safe drop.

  1. Select Cash Out.

  2. Enter the Cash Out Amount.

  3. Add a Memo with the reason (for example, "Bought detergent").

  4. Tap Cash out now.

The total of your cash movements appears on the Current Drawer screen under Cash Out / In and is included in your end-of-drawer count.

Troubleshooting

  • Don't see Cash Out / In?
The drawer needs to be started first. Tap Cash Drawer, enter the starting cash amount, and start the drawer. Then try again.

  • The Cash in now or Cash out now button is grayed out?
Enter an amount greater than $0.00. The button turns on once there's an amount.

  • Your employee code isn't accepted?
Double-check the code with your manager. Employee codes are set up in Cents Business Manager under your team settings.

  • The physical drawer didn't open?
On the Cash Drawer screen, tap the 3-dot menu and select Open Cash Drawer. If it still doesn't open, check that the drawer is plugged in to your receipt printer and the printer is on.

  • Entered the wrong amount?
Record an opposite entry to correct it (for example, a Cash In for the amount you over-recorded as Cash Out) and explain it in the memo. You can review every entry in the 3-dot menu > Drawer History.
