ACA Washer and Dryer (Pulse) Install Guide

Harness, power, and coin drop connections for installing Pulse on Alliance ACA washers.

Written by Euri

This guide shows how to install a Cents Pulse on ACA washers and dryers, including the power adapter, harness, and serial mode setting.

Use this if you're installing a Pulse on an ACA washer or dryer.

Always power down the machine before you start, and keep it off until the install is done.

Washer installation

  1. Power off the machine and open the machine

  2. Attach the power adapter to the black 2-pin connector on the control board (RED ARROW)

  3. Attach the white connector coming from the power adapter to the 2-pin connector on the Cents harness

  4. Attach the 7-pin connector on the Cents harness to the 7-pin connector on the control board (GREEN ARROW)

  5. If 3-pin female and 3-pin male connectors are present on the Cents harness, they can be ignored and do not need to be connected to anything

  6. Using the adhesives on the back of the Pulse, attach the Pulse to the inside of the machine (typically next to the control panel). Face the antenna into open air.

  7. ACA machines must be set to SERIAL MODE by flipping DIPSWITCH #3 to the UP position.

A small screwdriver or pocket knife will make flipping this switch easier. After flipping the switch, restart the machine to make this change permanent. If the device is not yet configured, the machine will show EC19, which means that it has been successfully placed in SERIAL MODE and is awaiting serial communications from a card system.

  8. Power the machine on, verify the LEDs on the Pulse are illuminated.

Dryer installation

Note: The position of the control board will differ for stacked dryers vs. single frontload dryers.

  1. Power off the machine and open the machine

  2. Attach the power adapter to the black 2-pin connector on the control board

  3. Attach the white connector coming from the power adapter to the 2-pin connector on the Cents harness (RED ARROW)

For frontload dryers, the position will be behind the display (as pictured), for stacked dryers, the device will be mounted within the cavity.

Important things to know

  • ACA machines must be in SERIAL MODE: flip DIPSWITCH #3 up, then restart the machine.

  • Any 3-pin connectors on the Cents harness can be ignored on ACA machines.

  • On frontload dryers the Pulse goes behind the display. On stacked dryers it goes inside the cavity.

Troubleshooting

  • The Pulse LEDs aren't on.
Check that the machine has power and that the harness connectors are fully seated, including the 2-pin power connector or power adapter.

  • The machine shows EC19.
That's expected. It means the machine is in SERIAL MODE and waiting for the device to be set up.

  • The machine isn't in serial mode.
Check DIPSWITCH #3 is up, then restart the machine so the change sticks.

  • The device doesn't show online.
Make sure the Cents network (VLAN) is set up at the store and the device has been set up. See How to Set Up Your Cents Connect Network (VLAN).
