How to Connect Your Cash Drawer to the Cents Mobile Bundle

Learn the proper way to connect a compatible cash drawer to the Cents Mobile Bundle

Written by Euri

With the Cents Mobile Bundle, your cash drawer connects to your receipt printer, and the Cents Employee App opens it through the printer. Once it's set up, the drawer pops open on cash payments and whenever you open it from the app.

Use this if you want to set up a cash drawer with your Mobile Bundle tablet and printer, or fix one that won't open.

Before you start

  • You have Admin access to Cents Business Manager.

  • You have your cash drawer, receipt printer, and the APG cash drawer cable (CD-101A).

  • Your receipt printer is powered on, loaded with paper, and connected in the Employee App.

Step 1: Turn on cash and the cash drawer in Business Manager

  • Click Admin, open Locations, and select your location.

  • Click the 3-dot menu in the top right and choose Configure Payment Options.

  • Turn on Accept cash payments and Cash Drawer tracking, then click Save.

Step 2: Connect the drawer to your printer

  • Plug the larger end of the cable into the bottom of the cash drawer.

  • Open the bottom cover of your printer and plug the other end into the cash drawer port (it looks like an Ethernet port).

  • Put the printer cover back on and turn the printer right side up.

  • Turn the key on the drawer to the unlocked (vertical) position.

Step 3: Test the drawer

  • Open the Employee App and make sure the drawer is started (Cash Drawer shows Active on the Home screen).

  • Tap the menu icon (3 lines, top left) and select Cash Drawer.

  • Tap the 3-dot menu in the top right and select Open Cash Drawer. The drawer should pop open right away.

Troubleshooting

  • Cash Drawer doesn't show Active?
Start the drawer first. Tap Cash Drawer, enter your starting cash, and start it. The drawer won't open from the app until it's started.

  • Nothing happens when you tap Open Cash Drawer?
Make sure the printer is on, has a paper roll, and shows connected in the Employee App under the menu icon > Connections. The drawer opens through the printer, so if the printer isn't connected, the drawer won't open.

  • Still nothing?
Check that Accept cash payments and Cash Drawer tracking are on for this location in Cents Business Manager under Configure Payment Options.

  • The cable doesn't seem to fit?
Use the APG Printer Interface Cable CD-101A. The larger end goes into the cash drawer and the smaller end goes into the cash drawer port on the bottom of the printer. Make sure both ends click in all the way.

  • You hear a click but the drawer stays shut?
Turn the key to the unlocked (vertical) position and remove any packing material from inside the drawer.

  • The drawer opens with the key but not from the app?
The drawer is fine. Reseat the cable at both ends and confirm the printer is connected in the app.

  • Opens on demand, but not during a sale?
The drawer only opens automatically when you take a cash payment.

  • Stopped working right after you tapped Clear cache in Connections?
This is a known issue. Fully close the Employee App and open it again.

  • The drawer won't open even with the key?
It may be jammed or damaged. Text our Support team so we can help with a replacement.
