How to Take Split Payments in the Employee App

Pay for one order with multiple payment methods from the Payment Method screen in the Employee App.

Written by Euri

Split payments let a customer pay for one order with more than one payment method, like part on a card and the rest in cash.

Use this if you want to let a customer split their balance across cards, cash, a cash card, or another payment method.

Before you start

  • You're at the Payment Method screen for the order (during intake or at pickup).

  • The payment methods you want to use are set up for your business.

How it works

On the Payment Method screen, pick a method, enter only the part of the balance you want on that method, and complete it. The remaining balance shows right away. Pick the next method for what's left, and repeat until the balance is $0.00.

Credit or debit card

  • Select Credit/debit card and tap Take payment.

  • Enter the amount to charge to the card. The balance due after this payment shows below. Tap Charge.

Card on file

  • Select Card on File and tap Take payment.

  • Enter the amount to charge and tap Take payment.

  • On the tip screen, add a tip if the customer wants one, then tap Pay now.

Cash

  • Select Cash and tap Take payment.

  • Enter the cash amount and tap Complete payment.

Cash card

  • Select Cash Card and tap Take payment.

  • Type the customer's 12-digit laundry card number, or insert the card into the reader to pull the balance.

  • Enter the amount to charge to the card and tap Capture payment.

Other payment method

  • For methods like PayPal, select Other payment method.

  • Enter the amount and the payment details, then tap Mark as paid.

Troubleshooting

  • A card was declined partway through?
Only the payments that went through are applied. The remaining balance stays on the order, so try another card or method for what's left.

  • The cash card doesn't have enough balance?
Charge what's available on the card, then pay the rest with another method.

  • The customer handed over more cash than needed?
Enter the cash received. The app shows the change due.

  • Other payment method didn't move any money?
That's expected. It only records a payment taken outside of Cents (like PayPal). Make sure you actually received the money before tapping Mark as paid.

  • Not sure what's been paid so far?
The balance due updates after every payment. You can also check the payments in the order details.
