What Sessioning Is and How It Works

Turn on Track by Session in Business Manager, then start sessions with employee pins in the Employee App.

Written by Euri

Sessioning lets each employee sign in to the Cents Employee App with their own code, so everything they do, like taking orders, processing, and managing machines, is tracked under their name. Once they're signed in, they don't have to re-enter their code for everyday tasks.

Use this if you want to turn on sessioning for your business, or understand how sessions start, end, and time out.

Turn on sessioning

  • In Cents Business Manager, go to Admin > Account > Settings.

  • Turn on Track by Session. The change shows up in the Employee App right away.

Start a session

  • On the Employee App lock screen, enter your PIN and tap Start Session. Your PIN is the same as your employee code.

  • If you aren't clocked in yet, starting a session clocks you in automatically and takes you to the Home screen.

  • To only clock in or out without starting a session, tap Check In/Out in the upper right. Tap the X to go back to the lock screen.

  • Once you're in, the Home screen shows your name and an End session button at the top.

What you can do without re-entering your code

  • No code needed during a session: order intake and adjustments, machine management, order processing, and shift management.

  • Code still required: voiding an order, refunding an order, and Cash In or Cash Out.

How a session ends

  • Tap End session when you step away or finish your shift.

  • If the tablet sits idle for 2 minutes, an Are you still there? screen appears. Tap Yes, I'm still here within 10 seconds to keep going. Otherwise the session ends and the tablet returns to the lock screen.

For step-by-step instructions, see How to Start a Session in the Employee App.

Troubleshooting

  • Don't see the Start Session screen?
Sessioning may be off. An admin can turn on Track by Session in Cents Business Manager under Admin > Account > Settings.

  • Your PIN isn't accepted?
Your PIN is your employee code. Confirm it with your manager. Employee codes are managed in Cents Business Manager.

  • The app keeps sending you back to the lock screen?
The session timed out after 2 minutes of inactivity. Tap Yes, I'm still here when the prompt appears, or start a new session.

  • Still asked for a code during a session?
That's expected for voids, refunds, and Cash In or Cash Out. Those always require a code.

  • Someone else's name is on the Home screen?
They didn't end their session. Tap End session, then start your own.
