How to Enable Other Payment Methods at a Location

Beyond cash and integrated card payments, Cents lets you turn on other payment methods for a location, so your staff can record a sale a customer paid for outside Cents, for example by check or an external card terminal. Cents records the payment and includes it in your reporting, but it does not process the funds. You set these per location in the Business Manager.

Before you start

  • You need Admin access to the Business Manager.

  • Other payment methods are recorded, not processed: Cents logs the sale under the method you choose but does not capture or refund the money, so handle the actual payment the way you normally would.

  • Payment options are set per location, so repeat these steps for each store that should offer them.

Enable other payment methods

  1. Click Admin in the top navigation, then open Locations.

  2. Select the location you want to set up.

  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right and choose Configure Payment Options.

  4. Find the Other Payment Methods section.

  5. Toggle on each method you want your staff to be able to record at this location.

  6. Click Save.

Using an other payment method at checkout

Once enabled, the method appears on the Payment screen in the Cents Employee App. When a customer pays with it, your staff selects that method to mark the order paid. The sale is then recorded under that method and shows in your payment reports.

Troubleshooting

  • Don’t see the method on the tablet?
Confirm it’s toggled on in Configure Payment Options for the correct location and that you pressed Save, then log out and back in on the Employee App so it pulls the new settings.

  • Need to refund a sale paid with an other method?
Because Cents only records these payments, there’s no integrated refund. Return the money the same way it was taken, then adjust the order in Cents as needed.

  • Set it up but one store doesn’t have it?
These settings apply only to the location you edited. Repeat the steps for each store that should offer the method.

  • Looking for cash or cash card instead?
Those are separate toggles in the same window. See How to Enable Cash Payments at a Location and How to Enable Cash Card Payments at a Location.
